One of our favorite dessert recipes to prepare would have to be fruit ambrosia salad. It’s quick & easy to make, and let’s not forget about how delicious it is! Our classic ambrosia salad recipe is made with a combination of creamy cool whip and sour cream. Instead of using canned fruit cocktail, we prefer to load of ambrosia fruit salad with delicious sweet mandarins, maraschino cherries, and pineapples. We also love adding coconut & pecans to our easy ambrosia recipe, but those ingredients are optional.
So what’s the secret to mom’s best ambrosia salad recipe? Well instead of using plain marshmallows, we actually use fruit-flavored rainbow marshmallows. Believe it or not, the marshmallows add so much flavor! We also have another ambrosia recipe that is a tad bit different, which is our ambrosia salad with jello. However, we will be sharing that recipe at a later date.
This easy ambrosia recipe can be served year-round. It’s the perfect dessert for any occasion. Easter, Mothers Day, Picnics- You name it!

PrintMom’s Best Fruit Ambrosia Recipe
Sweet, nutty and full of marshmallows, this is a great traditional dessert.
Ingredients
- 8 oz cool whip
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 11 oz mandarins
- 20 oz crushed pineapple
- 10 oz maraschino cherries
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 2 cups fruity rainbow marshmallows
- 3/4 cups crushed pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Combine cool whip and sour cream in a large container until sour cream is completely incorporated.
- Stir in the drained mandarins and pineapple, followed by the coconut and rainbow marshmallows. Add in the pecans, if using.
- Drain and press the cherries between two sheets of paper towel, then carefully stir into the ambrosia salad to prevent bruising.
- Cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
